Abigail Cole, LSW, Lima

As a therapist, I bring authenticity, empathy, and a touch of humor to the therapeutic relationship. My therapeutic approach is holistic, client-centered, and trauma-informed. I have found that meaningful and lasting change often stems from integrating both mind and body—since the body frequently holds unresolved trauma, ingrained habits, and deep-seated memories. By bringing mindful awareness to the body, we can gain deeper insight into your lived experience, fostering personal growth and transformation.

When faced with significant life stressors, the body may perceive danger and activate protective mechanisms. However, when these experiences go unprocessed, the body can remain in a heightened fight-or-flight state for years, even decades. Polyvagal Theory offers a valuable framework for understanding how our nervous system influences behavior, emotional regulation, and responses to safety or threat. Using this framework, we can collaboratively identify nervous system dysregulation and integrate practical tools to help restore a sense of safety. These tools may include body-based techniques such as mindful movement, somatic sound, trauma release exercises, bilateral stimulation, grounding practices, and breathwork.

My educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Pedagogy from Grace College in Indiana, as well as a Master's degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. I am a licensed Social Worker in the state of Ohio and have completed specialized training and certifications in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Critical Incident Stress Management, Prepare and Enrich Couples, and Crisis Prevention Intervention. It is truly an honor to accompany individuals on their journey toward healing and self-discovery. If my approach resonates with you, I invite you to take the next step and schedule an appointment!

"Trauma may live in your body, but healing begins the moment you listen to its story." -Dr. Peter Levine
