Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Do you struggle with persistent depression, anxiety, or PTSD that hasn’t improved with traditional therapies? Are you searching for a breakthrough to find relief and reclaim your sense of well-being? Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) offers a transformative approach, combining the therapeutic benefits of ketamine with guided psychotherapy sessions. This innovative treatment can help you unlock deeper insights, process unresolved emotions, and create lasting change by enhancing neuroplasticity and breaking through mental barriers. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may be the step forward you’ve been looking for on your journey to healing.
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a legal, safe, and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety , and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hours after treatment and last for up to 2 weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as stimulating AMPA receptors, which are though to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
How does Ketamine Feel?
The effects of ketamine, which most clients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying or sitting down in a comfortable position during the experience. Once these effects have subsided, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience.
What’s the process like?
First, you will be referred by your KAP therapist to Journey Clinical, where you will schedule an initial evaluation with a clinician from the Journey Clinical medical team via zoom. If they determine you are eligible, they will develop a personalized Ketamine prescription and outcome monitoring plan for you.
Second, once receiving the lozenges, you will schedule a preparation session where you will align on the process and set intentions for your KAP sessions together with your KAP therapist.
Third, you will have your KAP dosing session which lasts approximately 2-2.5 hours and can take place either in-person at our offices or remotely via telehealth. Our KAP therapists make an intentional effort to make dosing sessions as calm and relaxing as possible by utilizing calming music, wearing an eye mask, or the use of essential oils or other comforting items if you choose. The KAP therapists will be present with you the entire time.
Fourth, you will meet for integration therapy sessions to review the memories, thoughts, and insights that arose during the dosing sessions, and to prepare for the next dosing session.
Fifth, you will have regular follow-ups with the Journey Clinical medical team to monitor outcomes and receive prescription refills as appropriate.
Cost
Depending on whether you are using insurance or not, how many dosing sessions you need, and how many prescription refills you require, your total cost may range from $1,400 to $2,200+ for the entire process.
Is it worth it for me?
If you’ve spent years and thousands of dollars—$5,000 or more annually—on traditional psychotherapy without finding the relief you’re searching for, KAP could be a transformative investment in your well-being. For individuals with conditions resistant to standard treatments, this approach may offer breakthroughs that reduce the time and financial resources spent on ongoing care. By addressing deep-rooted issues more effectively, KAP has the potential to save you money in the long run and provide the life-changing relief you deserve.
